Floor Care
Cleaning
- Sweep or vacuum on a regular basis to remove dust and dirt. Build up of these materials
can damage your floor. A dust mop can be used for finer pieces of dust.
- Do not use oil soaps or ammonia and do not wax or polish your floor. All of these
materials can damage the finish over time and can affect adhesion for recoating.
- If needed, you can use a 10:1 ratio of water to vinegar. However, take note that
over time, vinegar may break down the finish on your floor. This water/vinegar solution
will help remove accumulated grease and sticky substances not removed by debris
mopping or vacuuming.
- To clean your floor, use only a damp mop or cloth with water. Do not use excessive
amounts of water as this can damage and warp the wood. Use a 10:1 ratio of water/vinegar
to help remove accumulated grease and sticky substances not removed just with water.
Only use this solution periodically as the vinegar may break down the finish if
used daily.
- Ask your Earl's representative about any cleaner you're unsure about and what other
products we may recommend.
Protect your floor
- Be sure to use felt pads beneath furniture to reduce scratches and dents. Keep the
pads clean and change them each year.
- Keep your pets nails trimmed to help minimize scratching.
- Clean any pet accidents immediately to reduce the risk of stains.
- Avoid wearing high-heeled shoes on hardwood floors.
- Use rugs in high-traffic, sink and work areas to trap debris and protect from spills.
- Be aware that the sun and UV rays can age and damage your floor’s finish. Earl's
can recommend a special finish which helps protect your floors from UV damage and
won’t turn yellow or amber over time.
- Never drag furniture across flooring without proper protection.
